TISSUE CULTURE

TISSUE CULTURE

Tissue culture is a technique in which plants are maintained or multiplied under sterile conditions, free from viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens. By means of tissue culture many genetic identical plants with desirable treats can be produced in short time on an artificial growth medium.

To bring a plant into tissue culture (initiation), parts of the plant are sterilized en placed on a growth medium. If these explants are free of microorganisms, maintenance can be build up to secure the genetic material. From this maintenance, further multiplication or other techniques can be applied.

Many starting material of seed and cuttings production originates from tissue culture because of it’s juvenility, uniformity and cleanness. At Artisst Plants we developed protocols for many crops, among which ornamental plants, perennials, flower bulbs, grasses, soft fruit, vegetables, etc.
